Jamie is a 13-year-old cat that used to live with an elderly woman in Australia. When his mom had to move into a nursing home, she knew she couldn’t take him with her and this broke her heart. However, she had to let him go.

Jamie was taken to an RSPCA Australia shelter, where the staff took care of him until he found a new family.

Unfortunately, being so old, it was unlikely that anybody would be interested in adopting him, and his carers were afraid that he would spend his golden years in a crate, which was really unfortunate.

Besides being old, Jamie had some health problems that took time to fix: cat flu, while he also had kidney issues and bad teeth. Luckily, the shelter staff and vets were able to help him overcome the flu by giving him the necessary antibiotics, while he also had the bad teeth removed. Also, he started a specific diet that would help him overcome his kidney problems over time.

When he was feeling better, it was time for Jamie to look for a new home. This seemed like a difficult task, but the staff were optimistic that maybe someone would be able to connect with an elderly cat and offer him a loving home.

And then Sarah Dempsey came in. The young lady was living alone, so she decided that she wanted someone at home with her to keep her company. So she went to the shelter looking for the perfect feline companion to take home with her.

When she arrived there, she didn’t really want to adopt an old cat, but something magical happened.

“When I first met him, he was asleep, but woke up as I bent down to look at him,” Sarah told The Dodo. “He clearly wanted some pats so I stuck my hand through the slot of the enclosure and he head-bumped me and purred. Later the staff let him out to see how he was with me and he was so affectionate.”

Sarah immediately fell in love with Jamie. She knew that he could be the best friend she was looking for. So, she adopted him right away and took him home with her.

The two hit it off really quickly, and Jamie started making requests. More specifically, right from the start, Jamie asked his new mom to hold his paw when he was napping. And so she did. However, when he fell asleep and she tried to take her hand away, Jamie woke up and started meowing. Needless to say, that since then Sarah always hold Jamie’s paw when he’s napping.

Apart from that, they also enjoy cuddles and snuggles, while Jamie also jumps on her bed and sleeps beside her at night.

This heart-warming story shows that even elderly animals can make the best companions and that the bond that we build with them is really special.

We’re glad that Jamie and Sarah found each other and they won’t feel lonely anymore.
