You always wonder if your dog, when faced with a home invasion, would react with aggression to protect you. Based on an Inside Edition report, most people believe that their dog would protect them in these circumstances. However, after putting dogs to the test, hardly any of them actually protected their owners. In fact, some dogs even ran away, leaving their owners to completely defend themselves.

One family, however, discovered that they have a dog that would certainly protect them if they ever needed it.

Tristin Murrin and his mother returned home to their Richmond, Virginia home on a Thursday night. They didn’t know they were about to walk into a bizarre situation. Once they arrived at their door, they were greeted by their German Shepherd, Oden. Tristin just knew something was wrong.

As they entered the house, everything looked normal at first – but, as they proceeded deeper into the house, they discovered a blood bath. Tristin saw a bit of blood on the first floor, but the 2nd floor of the house would reveal the entire truth.

“We looked upstairs and you could see trails of blood coming from upstairs, going all the way down”

There was so much blood splattered everywhere.

They looked around and didn’t notice that any of their belongings had been stolen. Recently they had heard of some break-ins happening around their neighborhood. Naturally, they believed they were the next intended victim. But the intruder didn’t expect to meet Oden.

The thief looks to have been lucky to have escaped with their life.

This act of aggression that Oden showed, according to Tristin, had never been witnessed before. Usually, Oden is found playing in the cul-de-sac with the kids of the neighborhood.

“The community loves him, the kids come up to him and want to touch him and play with him,” Murrin said.

Murrin said he is proud that Oden, who he calls his best friend, protected their home at the right time.

“I think the dog did its job,” he said.

“He knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home and he knows that [the intruder] wasn’t supposed to be in there and was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing.”

The Oden put the clues together and acted on his instincts. German Shepards are particularly known for being very intelligent, and you can see that trait within this story.

Tristin said his family shared their story in hopes that it will help lead to finding the intruder, who they believe must have required medical attention. You’d imagine the wounds had to have been very serious based on the photos alone.

He posted a video showing the gruesome scene on Facebook (since no longer available). Before the video was removed, it had been viewed more than 16 million times.

“My best friend Oden who is a German shepherd, protected my home and belongings when I wasn’t there, I couldn’t be more proud of him,” Tristin wrote in the post.

“Such an amazing breed that’s why everyone who doesn’t have an actual dog should consider on adopting or buying a dog. Please share and like to get the story out.”

Police did investigate the scene, but to this day no arrests have been made.

Good Job, Oden!
